Our Lifesaving Charity Program
The Kauai Beach Guardians are an all volunteer organization of Hawai’i residents trained in CPR, First Aid and basic water rescues who are ready to help in the case of a drowning emergency.
The Beach Guardians concept was implemented by John Tyler, a Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor for many years, after he heard about and subsequently met with the New Zealand Surf LifeSaving management. SLS-NZ 6,000 volunteer members are a model for our 85 charter members of the Beach Guardians.
The Kaua’i Rescue tube project was started about 6 years ago. Rescue tubes are stationed at posts at unlifeguarded Kaua’i beaches, and citizen rescuers have saved 65+ lives in the last 4 years with the help of these tubes.
“A little knowledge that acts is worth infinitely more than much knowledge that is idle.”
